About the course
In this hour we will cover the logistics of integrating ketamine into chronic pain management. While most veterinarians are comfortable using ketamine for sedation and in the perioperative setting, clear guidance on its use in the chronic pain patient is not readily available. Based on the review of ketamine pharmacokinetics and also chronic pain in the previous lecture (Old Dog New Tricks Part 1) we dive deeper into using ketamine with a case based and systematic approach. We discuss case/patient selection, dose and frequency selection, route of administration, outcome measures, and risk considerations. We follow a selection of patients we have managed with ketamine to illustrate the concepts highlighted above. Attendees should leave feeling ready to start safely and effectively using ketamine in their chronic pain patients.
